Suez Cement supports the National Project for Housing

As part of its social responsibility strategy, today Suez Cement representatives signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Minister of Housing, H.E. Eng. Ahmed el- Maghraby.

Under this Memorandum Suez Cement will support the National Project for Housing by donating 50,000t of cement and sell additional 150,000t of cement ex-work price.

"Suez Cement is very proud to be a partner in community-building and support the noble governmental efforts aiming to guarantee all people the right to live in a secure place. This contribution is very much in line with Suez Cement’s engagement of promoting social and educational advancement in the local community" stated Mr. Omar Mohanna, Chairman of Suez Cement.

The National Project for Housing is the biggest low-cost housing venture in the Middle East which addresses the nationwide problem of housing shortages. In fact, the project aims at building 500,000 low-cost housing units across the nation by 2010 intended for low-income population groups.

"It has always been part of Suez Cement’s objective to help build a better Egypt. Our Company stands firm in taking into consideration our corporate social and environmental responsibilities. One way of realizing this goal is to help in the construction of houses, hospital and school buildings. We work, endeavor and live by our mission of "Building for a better future", said Mr. Roberto Callieri, Managing Director of Suez Cement in his message before signing the Memorandum.

In 2007, Suez Cement and its affiliated companies, Helwan Cement Company and Tourah Portland Cement Company, which are constantly engaged in being a reliable and a social responsible citizen, have promoted several development projects in the field of poverty alleviation, education and protection of the children’s rights with an annual contribution of approximately L.E. 10m.
