Holcim strengthens ready-mix concrete and aggregates businesses in Spain

Holcim Spain has agreed to acquire 100 per cent of Tarmac Iberia S.A.U. from Anglo American plc, London for a total consideration of up to EUR 148m. Completion of the acquisition is subject to regulatory approval which is anticipated to occur by September 2008.

Madrid-based Tarmac Iberia is a leading supplier of ready-mix concrete and aggregates. The company’s primary markets are located in the Greater Madrid area, on the Mediterranean coast and in Catalonia. The company operates 43 ready-mix concrete plants and 8 aggregates operations; an additional quarry
will be commissioned soon. The aggregates reserves account for approximately 100Mt. Tarmac Iberia employs 460 people. In 2007, the company sold 2.8 million cubic meters of ready-mix concrete and
7.8Mtof aggregates. Net sales reached approximately EUR 200m.

Holcim Spain is a leading supplier of cement, aggregates and ready-mix concrete in the metropolitan area of Madrid and on the Mediterranean coast. Today, the company operates 6 cement plants, 22 aggregates operations (crushed stone, gravel and sand), more than 70 ready-mix concrete facilities and six dry mortar plants. The Group company employs some 1,900 people and generated net sales of EUR 660m in 2007.
