Pakistan cement prices rise, but anticipated to come down soon

After an increase in excise duty Pakistan cement manufacturers have raised the cement prices by Rs 12 to Rs 15 per bag.

A cement dealer said that cement manufacturers have raised the prices after increase in prices of raw material and in excise duty and fixed new prices from Rs 290 to Rs 300 per bag.

He said that Dadabhoy Cement raised prices from Rs 215 to Rs 245 in short time of just two months and similarly Lucky Cement is being sold at Rs 305 in the market.

He said that government has raised the excise duty on cement by Rs 150. Even after this increase in excise duty the price of cement should be around Rs 230, but the manufacturers have been raising prices for last two to three months, he said and added that the current level of price was unbearable for the common man. He said that a decrease of Rs 5 to Rs 10 per bag cement prices is expected in a few days by the cement manufacturers as government would put pressure on them for lowering rates.
