China encourages cement production via carbide slag
09 June 2008

China just eased requirement on capacity and techniques of cement producers utilising carbide slag rather than limestone, according to the latest circular by National Development and Reform Commission. Existing calcium carbide processing-based PVC producers are allowed to build cement production facilities with daily capacity of more than 1000t and exempted from requirement of national cement industry policies.

Small-sized PVC manufacturers are encouraged to cooperate with surrounding cement producers on the utilisation of carbide residue. New and expanding PVC programmes are required to build up cement production lines with more than 2000tpd capacity in a bid to utilise carbide slag.

Besides, cement producers, which utilise carbide slag as raw materials, are allowed to enjoy tax incentives.
