Gearing up for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, PPC has supplied more than 12,000 tonnes of PPC CEM 1 42.5N cement to WG Wearne Ltd for the upgrade of the FNB stadium in Nasrec. WG Wearne Ltd, contracted to deliver all the concrete works on the stadium, have cast over 42 000m“ of ready-mix concrete on site to date. Construction of the multi-million rand stadium started in February 2007 and is expected to be completed mid 2009.  Upon completion, the stadium will seat 94 700 spectators requiring approximately 60 000m“ concrete to be cast. Throughout the project PPC Cement will deliver more than 16,000t of cement to the onsite batching plant. Seven bulk ready-mix trucks are used to transport the concrete around the stadium to the specific sections were it is pumped into the various casting moulds.
