Sri Lanka to import cement from Pakistan early this month

Due to the rising demand for cement Sri Lanka is to import 10,000t of cement from Pakistan to meet its requirements.

Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that a high cement demand has been created in the country with the commencement of many construction projects, including buildings and bridges.

He also revealed that an agreement has been signed with a company in Pakistan in this regard.

The stock from Pakistan is to arrive in Sri Lanka early this month. It would be distributed through the recently set up State Trading Co-operative Wholesale Company Ltd to the consumers.
