President cites confidence of Taiheiyo cement firm in Philippines

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo thanked officials of Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) for their continued confidence in the country as shown by their decision to invest an additional P105.6 million in their Cebu cement manufacturing operations.

Immediately upon her arrival here from Bogo City, where she opened the Polambato Roll-On, Roll-Off (RO-RO) Port, the President cut the ribbon of TCPI’s newly-completed Cement Silo, an 18 meter x 30 meter concrete structure that can accommodate more or less 10,000 metric tons of cement.

Acting Labor Secretary Marianito Roque, TCPI senior vice president and production plant manager Shinichi Aoyama, TCPI senior vice president for finance and administration Takhiro Imachi assisted the President in the inauguration of the new structure.

The new cement silo will serve as a storage facility of Taiheiyo to cool down high temperature cement coming from the cement mill. The room will be used also as an independent silo for material blending and quality improvement of the cement.

The company has 280 employees working on three shifts.

Taiheiyo Cement Corporaiton is the core company of huge international corporate groups scattered around the world. It boasts of more than 500 affiliates worldwide.

The company now has cement plants at Colton, Mojave and Rillito in the United States; Dalian, Qinhuangdao and Nanjing in China; Nghi Son in Vietnam; San Fernando town in Cebu and capital participation in Ssangyong of South Korea.

Taiheiyo operates 10 overseas cement plants with a combined clinker production capacity of 24.4Mt, and 189 cement distribution terminals worldwide, one of which is located in Manila.
