Cementir gets green light for second Chinese plant
17 April 2008

Cementir, a unit of local construction company Caltagirone, has received authorisation to build another plant in China, close to the one it already runs in Anqing, eastern China, president Francesco Caltagirone Jr said.

The plant will have a production capacity of 600,000t and will produce mostly white cement, Caltagirone continued, adding that Cementir’s existing plant, which has an output capacity of 100,000t, was about to start production of special cements.

The company will invest EUR60m in the new facility, which should be completed by the end of 2009. The unit is expected to start production in December 2009.

The new plant would be an important stage in the development of the group, which is focusing on expansion on foreign markets, the president said.

From 2009 the company will benefit from an increased production capacity thanks to the expansion of its Sinai and Edirne plants, he said.
