Lafarge to invest EUR600m in six new cement plants in China
05 March 2008

Lafarge said it will invest over EUR600m in six new cement plants in China through an agreement with Chinese equipment supplier CBMI Co Ltd.

CBMI, a unit of Sinoma Group, is to build the plants before the end of 2010. A first site in Chongqing city, south-west China, is due to be completed by the end of 2009 with a capacity of over 2Mt.

Lafarge said the investment is part of its program to build 45Mt of new cement capacity between 2006 and 2010 in order to meet growing demand in emerging markets.

Lafarge and CBMI have worked together on various projects since 1999, the Lafarge said.
