Baticem offers to buy French assets

Turkish cement company Baticim said on Tuesday it had made an offer to Ciments Francais for its Turkish cement operations Batisoke, a smaller cement company which is majority owned by Baticim A.S., said in a separate statement it also had bid for the Ciments Francais assets.

Ciments Francais, controlled by Italy’s Italcementi said on Monday it had started talks with investors over its operations in Turkey, which include Afyon Cimento. It has four cement plants, located in Ankara, Afyon, Balikesir and Kirklareli and its sales amounted to 50.86 million lira (US$43m) last year.
