Morocco cement sales rise highest in 10 years

Cement sales in Morocco climbed to 12.8Mt in 2007, an increase of 12.6 per cent compared with 2006, according to a report published in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper. According to the report, this is the highest cement sales growth rate recorded in the Kingdom in the past 10 years.  
 
Cement sales in Casablanca amounted to 1.9Mt – equivalent to 15 per cent of the total cement sales in the Kingdom in the same year.  
 
Meanwhile, sales in Marrakech came to 1.4Mt in 2007, representing 10.9 per cent of the total sales.
 
Moroccan Cement Company and other four cement companies have announced huge investment projects in the cement sector between 2008-2011. These investments are estimated MD11.5bn (US$1.5bn). As a result, domestic production capacity is estimated to grow from 14Mt to 23Mt in 2011, an increase of 64%.
