Peruvian firm Cementos Otorongo, controlled by Cimpor, will begin construction of a cement plant in Matarani, in Arequipa department in April, according to production minister Rafael Rey.
Cimpor announced the US$125mn investment for the plant’s construction in November 2007. The facility will produce 650,000t of cement annually, equivalent to 10% of national consumption.
Initially the firm will only sell to the domestic market, but expects to export in the future.
The company plans to build a second plant in Lima, projected to begin operations in 2010, state news agency Andina reported. Published under Cement News
