Brazilian cement prices to be monitored
23 November 2007

The Brazilian finance ministry’s economic monitoring department SEAE will meet with the national cement union SNIC in order to discuss the rise in cement prices, local press reported.

Federal government economists are worried about the hike in cement prices in recent months, in that it may affect construction projects and thereby result in inflation.

The decision to arrange the meeting was made after the Brazilian construction chamber CBIC presented a study that shows that cement prices have risen more than 50% this year in some Brazilian cities.

According to the study, the price in Brazil for a 50kg bag of cement reaches 14 reals (US$7.91), compared to the international average price of US$7.00.
