Strike threat looms over Carib Cement
14 November 2007

Carib Cement Rockfort plant.  The threat of strike action now hangs over Caribbean Cement Company Limited.

The National Workers Union (NWU) has called a press conference for Tuesday morning to announce a 72-hour ultimatum on the company.

According to NWU Deputy Island Supervisor, Danny Roberts, Caribbean Cement has not responded to concerns raised that its plant modernisation programme could result in job losses.

Mr. Roberts on Monday night warned there could be a work stoppage at the company before the end of the week.

Carib Cement is scheduled to complete its US$100m expansion programme early next year.
