Deputy Minister Visits Butra Cement Factory, Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan - Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources Dato Paduka Haji Hamdillah bin Haji Abd Wahab yesterday made a working visit to the Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd (BHC) at the Serasa industrial area, Muara.

BHC updated the minister on the improvements the firm has made over the years. The deputy minister was welcomed by Jean-Claude Jamar, Managing Director of Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd, who gave a presentation on its background.

Set up in Nov 1993, BHC started commercial production in June 1996 with a capacity of 500,000tpa. BHC exported to East Malaysia from Sept 1996 until May 1997 when exports ceased due to Malaysian government regulations.

BHC has achieved the highest class for cement quality. Brunei Cement has been certified by the government as Class 62.5N according to BS12: 1996 since April 2003 as per requirement of the Ministry of Development (MOD). Strict quality control, closely monitored by Public Works Dept (JKR) and 3rd party independent laboratory ensure high quality and consistency of the BHC product.

It has 57 employees, 63 per cent of whom are locals. The company welcomes attachment training from Jefri Bolkiah School of Engineering, Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College and Mechanical School students.
