Chettinad Cement Corporation registered a substantial rise of 48.55% in net profit for the second quarter ended June 2007. The strong sales growth coupled with improved operating margins helped the company to post better earnings growth. During the quarter, net profit of the company jumped to Rs 507.6 million from Rs 341.7 million in the same quarter, last year.

Net sales for the quarter climbed 25.77% to Rs 2,349.90 million, while total income for the quarter rose 25.89% to Rs 2,361.60 million, when compared with the corresponding quarter, a year ago.


Operating margins improved to 40.71% during the quarter, a rise of 614 basis points compared with the corresponding quarter, a year ago. The earnings per share (basic and diluted) jumped 42.63% to Rs 16.16 compared with the same quarter, last year.
 
Chettinad Cement Corporation is engaged in the business of manufacture of cement. Its manufacturing units are located at Puliyur in Karur and Karikkali in Dindigul district. The combined capacity of both the units is 2.2 million tons per annum. The company has its own limestone mines in Palayam. It has installed a total of 66 wind power generators with a total capacity of 17.35 MW.
