PT Semen Gresik Tbk is planning to build low calorie coal-fired power plants with a combined capacity of about 400MW to meet power demand from its three plants.

"The power plants will be built in stages in the locations of our factories in Tuban (East Java), Indarung (West Sumatra) and South Sulawesi. The power plants will have a combined capacity of 400 megawatts," PT Semen Gresik Vice President Director Ir Rudiantara said at a get-together here on Friday.

The construction of three power plants would cost US$450-$500 million which would be financed from the company’s funds and loans from financial instutitions, he said.

"Power demand from our plants will be getting larger, while power supplies from state electricity company PLN are far from enough. What is more, we are also planning to build new plants which will need fairly large power supplies," he said.
