India Ambuja cement says Aug floods hit production
07 September 2007

Ambuja Cements Ltd, India’s third-biggest cement maker, said on Thursday that floods last month had cut production at its plants in Gujarat by 200,000t.

The company had filed insurance claims worth INR125m (US$3.1m) for its estimated losses, it said in a notice to the stock exchange.

It said all the plants resumed production in phases between August 11 and August 29, and a restoration of full production was expected soon.

The company, in which Swiss cement maker Holcim owns more than 36 per cent, on Wednesday said cement production in August rose four per cent from a year earlier to 1.13 Mt.
