The main cement producer is Garadagh Cement which meets 50 per cent of the local cement demand (Garadag Cement is capable of producing 1-1.4Mta of cement), while the rest is imported.
Notably, Azerbaijan produced 1.554Mt of cement in 2006, with a 0.1 per cent increase from 2005.
The question of building a new cement plant in Azerbaijan is the focus of the government, with Lafarge interested in undertaking this project.
