Local cement production exceeds 0.94Mt Jan-July, Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan produced 944,500t of cement during the first seven months of 2007, with a 2.8% increase from the first seven months of 2006.
The main cement producer is Garadagh Cement which meets 50 per cent of the local cement demand (Garadag Cement is capable of producing 1-1.4Mta of cement), while the rest is imported.
Notably, Azerbaijan produced 1.554Mt of cement in 2006, with a 0.1 per cent increase from 2005.
The question of building a new cement plant in Azerbaijan is the focus of the government, with Lafarge interested in undertaking this project.
