20 August 2007

Edney Vieira, chairman of Cimpor’s executive board, says that the cement producer will acquire new companies to increase market share and launch new investments.

Cimpor currently has a seven per cent market share in the Turkish cement sector. Cimpor aims to expand in Turkey and will realise new investment and establish facilities in short and mid-term to reach this goal, according to Vieira.

Cimpor is already building a cement factory in the Hasanoglan district of Ankara under a EUR100m investment project. The plant, which will have an annual production capacity of 1Mt, will become operational in 2009.

Cimpor had entered the Turkish market at end-2006 by acquiring Lafarge-Yibitas Orta Anadolu from  Lafarge-Aslan Cimento for EUR535m. Cimpor has three cement factories, three grinding and packaging facilities and 12 ready-mix concrete plants.
