China cement sector to grow despite removal of export rebate
22 June 2007

China’s cement industry is expected to keep on rising despite the scrapping of the export rebate policy on cement.

The Ministry of Finance recently announced the abolishment of the rebate policy on the export of cement.

The country’s export of cement and clinker reached more than 11.23Mt in the first four months of this year, increasing four per cent year on year, demonstrating a sound momentum of growth.

As most of cement exporters in China are large cement enterprises, the policy of abolishing the export rebate will not have a large impact on the operation of the industry as a whole.

The total export of cement and clinker was 36.12Mt in 2006, surging 62.5 per cent YoY.

Exports mainly go to North America, Asian countries, Hong Kong and Macao, which together account for 92 per cent of China’s total export of cement.

The cement export was only 2.92 per cent of total cement output of 1.236 billion tons in 2006.

China’s major cement exporters are Conch Cement,  Huaxin Cement  and Jidong Cement.
