A spokesperson for Karbala City Council announced that the chairman of the council has inked an agreement along with Lafarge, to set up a cement factory which will have an output of 1.5Mta, according to reports from the Iraq Directory.

He went on to say that the agreement was validated on the condition that the central government of Iraq receives four per cent of the company’s yearly production.

The facility is expected to be completed by 2009.
