With its current rapid development, Vietnam is likely to top the list of cement producers in Southeast Asia in 2010, according to Chairman of the Vietnam Cement Association Nguyen Ngoc Thien.

Mr Thien said Vietnam now has more than 30 operating projects with a total capacity of 40 million tones of cement. By 2010, the country is expected to have 45 cement plants, capable of producing over 60 million tones.

Against this background, the cement sector is quite able to meet the domestic demand. The Vietnam Cement Association has forecast that the cement sector will surpass the domestic demand by 10-12 million tonnes in the 2010-2012 period
