Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) has proposed to establish a mini-cement plant adjacent to the paper factory at Kagithapuram in Karur district, about 115 kms from here.

Speaking to reporters, TNPL Managing Director V Murthy said that the cement plant of 400 tonnes per day (TPD) capacity is meant to convert lime sludge accruing in the paper plant to cement.

The company was all set to float tenders for the purchase of machinery and equipment, he added.

About 30 acres of land has been earmarked for the plant and it would also be utilising the excessive fly ash generated.
