Indonesia Cement consumption down in April
18 May 2007

After strong growth in March, cement consumption in Indonesia shrank 10.45 per cent in April compared to the previous month, to 2.4Mt.

On an annual basis however, consumption grew by 2.2 per cent from 2.35 million tons in April and by 7.15 per cent to 9.984Mt in the first four months of this year, the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) said.

"The decline in April was attributable to slow implementation of many large government infrastructure projects," ASI chairman Urip Timuryono said.

"The downtrend proved that previous predictions that high demand for cement would continue was false."
