Halkida cement factory to restart operation, Greece
08 May 2007

A trilateral meeting between the association of workers and the management of the AGET Heracles cement company was held in Athens on Monday in the presence of Deputy Employment and Social Protection Minister Gerassimos Yiakoumatos.

During the meeting, decision was reached that the cement factory in Halkida, central Greece, which has been closed since April 16, will operate normally as of  Tuesday 8 May 2007 and that there would be no obstacles on the part of the workers for its smooth functioning. AGET Heracles committed itself that there would be no dismissals or transfer of workers, which arose from the assignment of the quarry to a contractor.

By May 9, both the sides (workers and employers) will submit to the ministry, in the presence of Yiakoumatos, their positions and points of friction which may exist, so that in the negotiations which will follow, a better solution will be found in the interest of the workers.
