Yemen Corp for Cement to launch new line in Sept’ 2007

State-run Yemen Corporation for Cement Industry and Marketing plans to put into operation in September 2007 a new production line, estimated at US$136m, at its cement plant in Amran.  
 
The new production line will have an annual capacity of 1.2Mt, to be added to Amran plant’s current capacity of 500,000t.  
 
Works on the establishment of the new production line were launched in 2003 by Japan’s Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co (IHI).  
 
Amran plant, located to the northwest of the Yemeni capital Sana’a, produced a total 555,296t of cement in 2006, exceeding its plan for the same year by 55,296t.  
 
Besides Amran plant, Yemen Corporation for Cement Industry and Marketing also manages a cement plant in each of Bajil and al-Barh. The corporation reported a total output of 1,460,545t of cement from the three plants in 2006.
