Carib Cement says Bureau of Standards tour not linked to quality control
19 February 2007

Officials at the Caribbean Cement Company sought to dismiss reports in some sections of the media that a tour of their Rockfort plant by the Bureau of Standard representatives was related to checks for cement quality.

Speaking with RJR news Friday afternoon Public Relations Officer at the Cement Company, Lystra Sharpe, said the tour was an assessment of construction taking place at the plant as part of the company’s modernisation programme.

Miss Sharpe added that the company has expanded the plant in an effort to double its production capacity by next year.

The tour was held amidst assertions by the company that it has successfully addressed the factors which led to the release of faulty cement onto the market.

The company also announced that it intends to blend the quarantined cement with good cement for distribution.

Caribbean Cement says it has conducted tests which have verified the integrity of the blended cement.
