Holcim Romania 2006 turnover Up 28%
25 January 2007

The Romanian unit of  Holcim said on Wednesday its 2006 turnover rose by 28% to a preliminary 774 million lei ($296 million/228 million euro) driven by the buoyant construction sector.

The growth of the company reflected the upward trend on the building materials market in 2006, Holcim Romania’s country manager Marcus Wirth said in a statement.

"Romania’s overall cement market was 7Mt in 2006. January is so far exceeding all expectations and we project a 15% growth in terms of volume in 2007," Wirth told a news conference.

"Our target is to grow with the market, by at least 15% this year, in terms of output and I hope we’ll have the same growth in turnover," he added.

Holcim Romania invested EUR57m in 2006 in upgrading its production technologies, in environment protection, human resources and safety, the statement said.

Last year Wirth said that the company expected its 2006 sales to rise at least at the same rate as the overall domestic market, whose growth was projected at 8.0% to 12%.
