The Brazilian cement segment, one of the thermometers of the civil construction sector, expects a 10% rise in sales in 2007 compared to 2006, estimates the Brazilian Association of Portland Cement (ABCP). In 2006 the sector’s sales grew by 8% against 2005.

Last year Brazil produced 36Mt of cement.

A package of measures to boost the housing sector launched by the Brazilian government last year has helped double the volume of mortgage loans, and this increase has had a positive impact on the civil construction sector", said ABCP’s Institutional Manager, Mario Willian Esper.

Next week the government will launch another package of measures to boost the economy, among which there will be investment targets for the housing and sanitation sectors.
