Cruz Azul expands cement plant
15 January 2007

Grupo Cruz Azul of Mexico will invest MXP$70m over the next two years in modernising its cement plants in Hidalgo and Oaxaca, states the group’s director-general, Guillermo Alvarez Cuevas.

The executive expects the entire industry will grow national production by around 5.5% in 2007; demand in 2006 came to 34Mt. In Puebla, Cruz Azul will soon consolidate its presence by starting up as of next month the plant in Palmar de Bravo to be operated by its filial Cementos y Concretos Nacionales (Cycna) de Oriente.

The new installations will produce 1Mta of cement. Cruz Azul itself already has plants in Aguascalientes and Puebla.
