Quality and Standards Authority of Ethiopia said that five investors have imported over 64,000t of cement during the past two months.

Authority Inspection and Regulatory Affairs Service Director, Almaz Kahsay, told WIC yesterday that the investors licensed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to import cement in a bid to alleviate the cement shortage in the country imported over 90 per cent of the total amount from Egypt and the balance from Pakistan.

According to her, the authority has approved the quality of the produces in addition to the quality certification granted by the countries of origin.

She also said sample produces are also imported from India following the request of other investors to import similar produces from that country while the five investors still continue to import the approved cement.

She dismissed the claim of certain quarters that the imported cements are of different standards.
