04 December 2006

The Himachal Government today said it was keen to set up cement plants in the state to utilise the vast limestone deposits but not at the cost of ecology, environment and displacement of people.

Talking to a team of global company led by its Chief Executive Bruno Lafunt, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minster V B Singh said the government was encouraging environmental friendly industry and cement plants were permitted only in selected locations, where displacement of people was negligible and environment was not threatened.

He said cement companies have been directed to take all possible precautions and use anti-pollution devices to ensure that air or noise pollution does not take place.
