Nine month production falls, Indonesia
31 October 2006

Indonesia’s cement production fell 5.6 per cent to 24.27Mt in the first nine months of this year compared with the same period last year.

Cement consumption dropped 2.4 per cent to 23.55Mt. Production Director of state-owned cement maker PT Semen Gresik Chabib Bahari said.

However, amid the slump in cement market, Semen Gresik, reported a 10 per cent increase in production with sales rising to 5.9Mt from 5.8Mt.

Chabib said the decline in the country’s cement production followed the slump on the domestic market and falling demand from international market.

Including its wholly owned subsidiaries PT Semen Tonasa and PT Semen Padang, the Gresik Group reported a 2.78 per cent increase in sales to 11.1Mt.
