China sees cement demand at 1.2 bln tons in 2010

Cement demand is expected to reach 1.2 bln tons in 2010 and expand to 1.3bn tons in 2020 as the country’s urbanisation accelerates, China’s top economic planning agency, the National Development and Reform Commission, said in a statement on its website.  
 
Annual cement output is expected to hit 1.25bn tons by 2010, up from 1. 06bn in 2005, the Commission said.  
 
It added that China will continue to promote consolidation in the sector to boost its competitiveness.  
 
The government will support cement producers with daily capacity of over 4,000t while attempting to bar construction ofn lines with daily capacity below 2,000t, it said.
