Adnan Ignebekcili, head of the TCMB (Turkish cement manufacturers’ association), said that the cement sector was expected to grow by 6-8% next year however the picture was rather unclear for 2008.

Ignebekcili commented that the general elections will be held in 2007 and the government’s expenditures will increase as the elections draw near and that will give a boost to the sector.

Turkish cement companies’ exports to Iraq have increased significantly, according to Ignebekcili. Erhan Kamisli, head of Sabanci Holding’s cement group, commented that the period after 2007 would be a rather difficult for the cement companies.
