29 August 2006

Vice mayor of Russia’s Irkutsk region, Igir Bychkov, has said the city administration intended to invite Chinese makers of cement and fittings to the region to establish competitive environment on construction materials market. A month ago, developers accused company Angarskcement – a monopoly suppler of cement to the region of that it moves out its commodity from Irkutsk region during the peak of construction season. In its turn, the Angarskcement’s board states the plant is able to supply Irkutsk with cement independently.

The Irkutsk’s city hall intends to start negotiations with Chinese equipment manufacturers to reduce dependence of local builders on two Russian suppliers: companies Angarskcement (controlled by Kemerovo-based holding Siberian Cement) and West-Siberian Metallurgical Works (ZSMK, forms group EvrazHolding, Novokuznetsk).
