FLSmidth wins contract in Egypt
25 August 2006

FLSmidth & Co A/S reports that it has secured a Euro 43m contract from Sinai Cement Company in Egypt.  The contract covers the delivery of equipment for a new cement production line at Sinai Cement Company’s plant on the Sinai Peninsula. The plant was built by FLSmidth and ASEC Engineering in 1998-2001.  The new production line will have a daily capacity of 4200t.  The new production line is scheduled to go on stream already in May 2008.

FLSmidth will supply all machines and auxiliary equipment, including an ATOX raw mill with a MAAG gear, a complete ILC three-support kiln with preheater and SF Cross-Bar cooler, as well as a UMS cement mill, electrostatic precipitators and automation equipment. The contract also includes installation and technical assistance, in addition to two complete packing lines from Ventomatic.

FLSmidth will use the experience gained so far with the principles of Lean project management: The project start-up phase has already been shortened and the project processing phase is also likely to benefit from these principles.

"We are now testing the experience gained with Lean through our systematic optimisation work the past six months. In the longer term, the Lean principles are expected to shorten the turnaround time of cement projects to the benefit of both customers and ourselves," says Group CEO Jørgen Huno Rasmussen.
