The Government has made headway in increasing the supply of cement locally. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce says 16,000t from Caribbean Cement will be made available to the market this week.

The figure was presented during a meeting on Monday involving Ministry officials and representatives of the Incorporated Masterbuilders Association of Jamaica, the Hardware Merchants Association and the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce.

It is reported that last week Caribbean Cement sold another 16,000t of cement.

Year to date sales at the company amounted to 458,000t compared to 468,000t during the corresponding period last year.

The Industry Ministry says another shipment of cement from Cuba is expected to arrive by July 23.
