Suleimaniah’s General Director for the Promotion of Investments, Mahdi Sheran, has announced an agreement with Lebanese company GRD to construct a cement factory in Bazian.

“The project will cost $170m and the factory will be built over 92 acres. The land was leased to the company for 50 years, and this must be renewed after this time,” Sheran stated and added ““there are four other cement factory projects in Suleimaniah. The total daily production of cement from these factories will be 27 thousand tons”.

To date, the Kurdistan Region has been obliged to import cement from Egypt and India to provide for the region’s reconstruction and development drive. The Lebanese GRD company is also involved in additional projects in the Kurdistan Region, including electricity, internet and residential housing projects.
