Broceni cement factory’s category A pollution permit extended
23 May 2006

The State’s Environmental Bureau (SEB) has decided to extend Liepaja’s Regional Environmental Administration’s (LREA) issued category A pollution permit for "Cemex" Broceni cement factory.

As reported earlier, the Environmental Protection Club (VAK) in March disputed the category A pollution permit issued by "LREA" to allow the Broceni cement factory to go from gas to coal burning. The club provided data that the burning of coal is poisonous to the environment.

A representative from VAK, Aiva Balcere, said that the pollution permit has been extended to 2011, however the "SEB’s" "LREA", has been instructed to annually investigate the pollution data of the cement factory for public access.
