Plea to revive CCI unit, India

The Cement Corporation of India Employees’ Union (CCIEU) has asked Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to take steps to revive the closed unit. "The Chief Minister out to protect the public sector CCI Adilabad unit by taking up the matter with the Union Government immediately," said the union’s general secretary S. Vilas. 
 
At a press conference here, Mr. Vilas circulated copies of the Central, Assam and Himachal Pradesh Governments’ orders related to concessions that can be accorded in view of revival of CCI units in the two States.  
 
The Union Government facilitated revival of sick units by according concessions related to excise duty and sales in case the capacity of the industry concerned was to be raised by a minimum of 25 per cent. Assam and Himachal Pradesh Governments accordingly gave such concessions, he said.  
 
Mr. Vilas pointed out that the consultant appointed by the Union Government had recommended upgrade of the CCI Adilabad unit’s capacity to 1,600tpd an increase by 25 per cent.
