23 March 2006

Cemex has announced that it will invest over Euro 47m in the construction of a new cement mill and dry mortar production plant at the Port of Cartagena, in Spain. The new facilities are expected to have a production capacity of almost 1Mta of cement and 200,000t of dry mortar per year and are part of a Cemex worldwide US$500m expansion capital program planned for 2006.

The new facilities will occupy almost 45,000 square meters and will include structures for the reception of supplies, storage and delivery of cement, and as well as house several offices and workshops. The project will be undertaken in several phases and will, say Cemex, adhere to strict environmental requirements. It is expected that the project will be completed in the first quarter of 2008. Upon completion, 50 new jobs will be created at the facility.
