DEP to hold public hearing on cement plant permitting
27 January 2006

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has scheduled a routine public hearing in Branford Tuesday, Jan. 31 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Hatch Park Community Center to hear comments on DEP’s intent to issue a draft air construction permit to Suwannee American Cement (SAC).

DEP ran a public notice regarding the public hearing in the Nov. 16, 2005 Suwannee Democrat but no petitions for administrative hearings or extension of time to petition for an administrative hearing were filed. This public meeting was requested pursuant to the procedures described in the public notice. Oral and written comments may be submitted at the meeting. All statements will become part of DEP’s public record for this project.

According to DEP, the purpose of the meeting is to receive comments on the DEP’s Notice of Intent to issue a draft air construction permit to SAC. The proposed project will add a new cement processing line (Kiln No 2) at the existing Branford Cement Plant.
