HeidelbergCement to buy Danish importer
02 December 2005

HeidelbergCement, the sole cement producer in both Sweden and Norway, has signed an agreement with the Bach group to acquire Randers Cement and DK Beton.  Randers Cement is the sole surviving independent cement importer in Denmark.  Hitherto, its single import terminal in the port of Randers on Jutland has drawn supplies mainly from the Catalan cement producer Uniland.  Once HeidelbergCement receives official clearance for the deal, the Randers terminal is likely to be included in the waterborne cement distribution network operated by Scancem, with the Slite works likely to become the prime supplier.  However, in view of the oversupply in the German market, the Teutonia works near Hanover could also ship into the Danish market by low air draught coasters.

DK Beton is the third largest ready-mixed concrete producer in Denmark and operates 24 batching plants with an annual production approaching 0.5m m³.  In terms of size it is not far behind Cemex’ 4K-Beton, though Cementir’s Unicon is the leader by some margin. Published under Cement News
