Bolivian cement producer Fancesa has threatened to abandon the Puente Sacramento-Puente Arce road project if it is not given more area to pave, newspaper Correo del Sur reported.  "We have made our best efforts to conclude what little there is to conclude - it hasn’t been due to a lack of will but rather a lack of area to work on. We will work until mid-November and we will leave this project from that date," Fancesa CEO Gonzalo Arce was quoted as saying.  Trucking transport interests have announced they will declare a state of emergency and will apply political pressure if the project is not completed by December.

The Nicaraguan unit of Cemex has opened a new RMC plant in Nicaragua’s Veracruz municipality with a US$1.5m investment, newspaper Milenio announced.  President Enrique Bolañs inaugurated the plant that will produce various grades of ready-mix cement for the local market. In 2001, Cemex acquired from Nicaragua’s government a 25-year contract to operate state cement company CANAL.
