There are considerable problems in construction sector of Azerbaijan, said Uve Kohler, Garadagh Cement company’s board chair, at a press conference. He said two main factors affect cement market in the country: lack of cement at the market and availability of poor quality output.

“Following marketing research we revealed that building materials of poor quality were used when constructing multi-story houses, and that is why they are not stable for earthquakes,” Kohler said. “In our turn, we report about these problems to the government and by joint efforts we are taking measures aimed at preventing sale of low-quality cement at the market.”

He added GC is the only large factory producing cement and explains its monopoly activity at the Azeri cement market.

But despite this year the factory is going to manufacture 1.2–1.25Mt of cement Garadagh is not able to satisfy fully market needs as demand for cement exceeds its real output capacities. GC marketing surveys showed that annual volume of cement of poor quality at the market is 50,000t.
