21 September 2005

HeidelbergCement AG said it will cut about 1,100 administrative jobs across Europe in a bid to reduce costs by about EUR50m ($71m) annually and streamline its organisation.

The company, based in the city of Heidelberg, has about 42,000 employees worldwide, 25,000 of them in Europe. The company did not say exactly where the cuts would come, saying only that they would be spread across 13 European countries.

The measures will be implemented over the next two to three years.
