Deputy PM urges speedier construction of two large projects, Vietnam
23 August 2005

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung yesterday urged to speed up construction of two large projects including the expanded Uong Bi Power Plant in northern Quang Ninh province and the Haiphong Cement Plant in northern Haiphong City.

At the Haiphong cement project, which has been implemented with record slow construction pace for the past eight months, Deputy PM Dzung asked leaders of the Ministry of Construction, the Vietnam Cement Corp and the Management Board of the Haiphong Cement Project to draw experience from carrying out this project to quicken the pace of five other cement projects, contributing to produce an additional 12Mt of cement, raising the total cement output produced by domestic enterprises to 25Mt by 2008.

When completed, the Haiphong cement project, which costs VND3,000 billion ($189.8m) and has an annual capacity of 1.4Mt, is expected to create jobs for around 1,000 local residents and generate industrial production of thousands of billions of Vietnamese dong.
