Indian Century Group to invest
27 June 2005

Century group will invest Rs 50 crore in the North-East (NE) to increase the installed capacity of its existing cement plant in Meghalaya.  The cement plant, which is under Cement Manufacturing Company Ltd (CMCL), has an existing capacity of 0.35Mta. The capacity would be increased to 0.5Mta. CMCL is a joint venture between Century group and Shyam group that sells cement under ’Star’ brand in NE states.

The chairman of CMCL Sajjan Bhajanka said that the new capacity addition would be complete by the end of this financial year. "We shall use fly ash as a raw material in the added capacity as plenty of fly ash is now available in the eastern region. We are now making both portland and PPC cement (fly ash based). But gradually we shall step up the production of PPC. Later on we shall produce portland cement only on specific demand," he said.
